Today is World Health Day – Monday 7 April

6th April 2025

As we mark World Health Day, it’s a powerful reminder that health begins with access to nutritious food. While healthcare systems are essential, so are the everyday efforts supporting basic wellbeing – like the work done by food banks across the country.

Food insecurity affects not just hunger but overall physical and mental health. Without access to healthy meals, individuals – especially children, the elderly, and vulnerable families are at greater risk of i.e. chronic illness and stress.

That’s why food banks play such a crucial role. By providing balanced food parcels, supporting dietary needs, and often working alongside health professionals and referral agencies, food banks help ensure that everyone has the fuel they need to thrive.

On this World Health Day, we celebrate the link between food and health – and the volunteers, donors, and community partners who help bridge the gap for those in need.

You’re more likely to face hunger if you have a mental health condition. And you’re more likely to have a mental health condition if you’re facing hunger.

That’s why we provide people with practical, compassionate support when they visit our food bank.

If you need mental health support as well as essential food items, please visit our food bank for advice.
