“Cruel cuts” to disability support spark outcry from UK food banks and charities

12th May 2025

The Trussell Trust, the UK’s largest food bank network, is raising the alarm over proposed cuts to disability benefits, warning that these changes could push more disabled individuals into poverty and increase reliance on food banks.

Disabled people are already three times more likely to face hunger. The proposed reductions in support, including changes to Personal Independence Payment (PIP), could exacerbate this issue.

We urge the public to write to their MPs, calling on the Work and Pensions Secretary to reconsider these cuts. The government should listen to real-life experiences instead of short-term savings and act on evidence to protect the most vulnerable.
