This Lent, give back instead of giving up

18th February 2026

Lent is traditionally a time to give something up – chocolate, coffee, takeaways or other small treats – as a way of reflecting and making space for what matters most.

This year, why not consider giving back instead of giving up?

If you’re planning to give something up for Lent, you could donate the money you save to Hart Foodbank. Alternatively, you could buy the equivalent value in food or essential items and donate them to help local people in need.

For many families in our community, food poverty is a daily reality. Rising costs and unexpected life events mean some households are struggling to afford even basic essentials. Your Lent sacrifice – whether it’s £5 a week or the cost of your daily coffee – could help provide practical support and reassurance to someone going through a difficult time.

A small change over 40 days can make a meaningful difference.

Together, we can turn a season of reflection into a season of generosity. 💚
