School’s out, but the need doesn’t stop

For many families, the summer holidays are a time to make memories, enjoy days out and spend time together. But for others, the six-week break can bring added financial pressure as household food bills rise and budgets are stretched even further.

With children at home all day, many parents face the challenge of providing extra meals and snacks, while also managing the cost of childcare, activities and other everyday expenses.

We want local families to know that they are not alone. If you’re struggling to make ends meet this summer, support is available.

We’re here to help

Anyone can experience financial hardship. A change in circumstances such as illness, redundancy, relationship breakdown, rising living costs or unexpected bills can leave families struggling to afford the essentials.

If you need emergency food support, we are here to help. We work with a network of referral agencies who can assess your situation and issue a foodbank voucher if needed.

Looking for free summer activities?

There are also a number of organisations across Hart offering free or low-cost activities and holiday meal schemes for children and young people during the school holidays.

We encourage families to check with:

• Hampshire County Council’s Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme
• Local schools
• Community centres
• Libraries
• Children’s centres

These programmes can help children stay active, enjoy fun activities and, in many cases, receive a healthy meal during the holidays.

Please don’t struggle alone

If you’re finding things difficult this summer, please don’t wait until you’re in crisis before asking for help. Reaching out early can make all the difference.

Likewise, if you’re in a position to support others, every food donation helps us continue providing emergency food parcels and practical support to local people across Hart.

Together, we can ensure that no one in our community has to face hunger alone this summer.
