More than food: how your local foodbank supports the whole person

9th September 2026

What do people think foodbanks do? Provide food.

And yes, providing emergency food is an important part of what we do. But Hart Foodbank is about so much more than the food in a parcel.

When someone comes to us during a difficult time, they aren’t simply given a bag of groceries and sent on their way. We take the time to listen, understand and offer support.

Alongside food, toiletries and other essential items, our services can help people access advice and support with some of the challenges that may have contributed to their financial difficulties.

Sometimes, what people need most is someone to listen

Financial hardship can affect every part of someone’s life. Worrying about how to pay the bills can affect relationships, family life, housing, mental wellbeing and a person’s sense of security.

That’s why a friendly face, a listening ear and a welcoming environment can be just as important as the food we provide.

Sometimes it’s as simple as sitting down with someone over a cuppa and a biscuit, having a chat and letting them know that they don’t have to face everything on their own.

Practical support when it’s needed most

Our work includes helping people access information, advice and support around issues such as housing, mental health and social security, alongside providing essential food and toiletries.

We know that asking for help can be difficult. People may feel embarrassed, worried or unsure about what will happen when they reach out.

Our aim is to make that first step as welcoming and straightforward as possible.

Because a foodbank isn’t just about food.

It’s about people.

It’s about creating a safe and supportive place where someone can be heard, treated with dignity and helped to find a way forward.

And sometimes, after a difficult period, the most important thing we can give someone is a little bit of hope.

Thank you for helping us do more

None of this would be possible without the incredible support of our local community.

Our volunteers, donors, supporters and partner organisations help us provide not only essential food and toiletries, but also the welcome, kindness and practical support that can make such a difference.

Together, we can help people through difficult times and remind them that they are not alone. ๐Ÿ’š

Thank you for supporting Hart Foodbank.
