Every day, food banks across the UK see the reality of how injustice drives hunger. Behind every parcel is a story – of low wages not keeping pace with living costs, of unexpected illness, insecure work, rising rents, and gaps in the social security system. These challenges are not isolated incidents; they are symptoms of deeper inequalities that leave too many people unable to afford the essentials.
On the World Day of Social Justice, we stand alongside people facing hardship and renew our commitment not only to provide emergency food, but to work towards lasting change.
Social justice means building strong communities where everyone has enough money to live on – where food banks are not a necessity, and where families can afford food, heating, housing, and other basic needs without crisis. It means systems that protect people when life takes an unexpected turn. It means dignity, fairness, and opportunity for all.
While we continue to offer practical support to those who need it today, we also believe that long-term solutions are essential. No one should have to rely on a food bank because of circumstances beyond their control.
Together – with our volunteers, supporters, partners, and local community – we are working towards a future where everyone can afford the essentials and hunger has no place in the UK.
Thank you for standing with us as we strive for a fairer society.
