Food banks across the UK: A lifeline for communities

27th April 2025

Across the UK, food banks continue to play a vital role in supporting individuals and families facing financial hardship. With the cost of living remaining high and many struggling to cover basic needs, demand for emergency food parcels has reached record levels.

Big organisations and thousands of independent food banks have stepped up to meet growing needs, providing not just food but also emotional support, advice, and connections to other essential services.

In 2024 alone, food banks distributed millions of food parcels, with many recipients being families with children, working households, and pensioners. Volunteers and donors remain at the heart of this work-giving time, supplies, and financial support to keep shelves stocked and doors open.

Food banks are more than just a temporary solution. Many now offer wraparound support, including us, helping people address the root causes of poverty through signposting, budget advice, mental health support, and more.

As communities come together to tackle food insecurity, the message is clear:
Everyone deserves access to nutritious food-and together, we can build a fairer future.
