As Advice Week comes to a close, Hart Foodbank and Community Pantry would like to shine a spotlight on the vital role that advice and support play in helping people facing financial hardship.
When someone comes to a foodbank, they may be dealing with much more than the immediate challenge of putting food on the table. Money worries can be connected to problems with benefits, housing, debt and budgeting, leaving people feeling overwhelmed and unsure where to turn.
That’s where advice and support can make a real difference.
Dedicated advisers who work alongside foodbanks help people understand their options, navigate complicated systems and access the support they are entitled to. Whether someone needs help with benefits, is struggling with debt or is worried about keeping their home, the right advice can help them take positive steps towards improving their circumstances.
For people experiencing hardship, getting the right support can be a turning point. Advice can help people access income they are entitled to, deal with financial difficulties and build greater financial stability. By addressing some of the underlying causes of hardship, it can also help reduce the likelihood of people needing emergency food support in the future.
The work is not always straightforward. Every person’s circumstances are different, and advisers often support people who are dealing with several challenges at once. Their patience, knowledge and understanding can make a significant difference at a difficult time.
We recognise that supporting our community is about more than providing emergency food. Helping people access advice and other services is an important part of ensuring they receive the support they need.
As Advice Week comes to an end, we want to say a heartfelt thank you to all the advisers who work tirelessly to support people in our community. Their dedication helps people understand their rights, access essential support and work towards a more secure future.
Advice matters – and everyone deserves the opportunity to get the help they need, when they need it. 💚
